Jamia Islamia University Announces Vacation

On Saturday, Jamia Millia Islamia announced a holiday until 5 January 2020 and canceled all examinations in view of the tense situation at the university due to students 'protests against the Students' Citizenship Act.

According to India today, a senior university official said, "All examinations have been postponed." New dates will be announced in due time. Holiday declared from 16 December to 5 January. The university will reopen on January 6, 2020.

On Friday, the university campus turned into a battleground when students and policemen clashed with each other, as students tried to march into parliament in protest. On that day, the university's administration announced the postponement of the exam was scheduled for Saturday.

On Saturday, university students had called for a lockout and planned to boycott the exams in protest against amendments to the Citizenship Act and also demonstrated against Friday's violence after clashes with police during March.

One student, Muhal Ashraf said, "We canceled the exam in between. If anything goes wrong in our country, Jamia will also raise its voice. We have boycotted classes and exams. Students will march again until the objective is achieved."
